VDOT Basic Work Zone Class

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has established a mandatory Work Zone Traffic Safety Training Program (referred to by VDOT as the Work Zone Traffic Control Training Program or WZTCTP) based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) regulations.

The basic course is a one-day “base” training course designed for VDOT maintenance managers, or private heavy construction workers or superintendents who have direct responsibility for the placement of work zone traffic controls and control devices.

The course includes: 1) A copy of the VDOT Work Zone Safety spiral bound pocket “Guidelines for Temporary Traffic Control”, 2) A cerficate of completion that serves as a temporary credential, and 3) The official VDOT Certification Card that is mailed to the participant from HRUHCA after the association receives it from VDOT).
