About VDOT Work Zone Classes

HRUHCA holds classes to teach the basic, intermediate, and advanced work zone classes using certified instructors at their training facility in Suffolk, Virginia. VDOT has established a mandatory Work Zone Traffic Safety Training Program (The Work Zone Traffic Control Training Program or WZTCTP). This program is based on Federal Highway Administration regulations provided in the Code of Federal Regulations (23 CFR 630 Subpart J).

As of July 1, 2009, any employee of a heavy construction company who is responsible for work zone traffic control planning, design, implementation, inspection, and/or supervising the selection, placement, or maintenance of traffic control schemes and devices in work zones on the State Highway System is required to have this training.

HRUHCA also conducts private classes for those firms who need to train a number of their people (8 or more) and wish to hold a private class at their facility. Please contact Stephanie Rogers, HRUHCA Executive Director at the HRUHCA office (757) 484-7500 if you would like to conduct a private class at a remote site.
